Quail Hollow continues to prove why it's one of the PGA Tour’s most regarded venues. Despite its sprawling grounds and massive layout, there is a subtle intimacy to the course – specifically greenside on the front 9. The amphitheater vibe of the greens generates an energy and excitement from golf fans, as the world’s best golfers try to navigate the quick, undulating greens. I have to say, it wasn’t as difficult to find good spots at most of the holes as I expected, which definitely added to the experience. It’s such a beautiful property, Quail Hollow. The view at the Par 5 7th is quite unreal, as the fairway and massive green neighbors a row of stunning mansions – separated by a pond that cost Xander Schauffele a chance at birdie on Friday and ended up ruining our 2nd round Under 70.5 bet on him. Meanwhile, almost the entire back 9 wraps around a picturesque body of water that certainly comes into play on the Par 4 16th – the first hole of the “Green Mile.” One of the shots of the day that I saw was just before the Green Mile at the Par 5 15th, where Tony Finau connected on a 42-foot eagle putt just after Scottie, Rory and Xander passed through.
Speaking of Xander, he and Rory sort of labored around the course at various points today. It was somewhat surprising to see them so close to the cut line considering both have such decorated histories at this course. Unsurprising to see was Scottie being Scottie. Despite not having any experience at Quail Hollow outside of the 2022 Presidents Cup, Scottie shot a cool 68 and is squarely in the mix to lift the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday. Outside of a few missed putts like the ones on #10 and #17, Scottie didn’t show much emotion today and was seemingly in control of his game all day.
Overall, the fan experience at Quail Hollow is fantastic. There were complimentary concessions throughout the grounds including water, Gatorade, various sodas, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and various snacks, which I wasn’t aware of until I arrived. That was a pleasant surprise, and frankly just added more money to the Transfusion and merchandise budget. The PGA Team shop was massive and had every golf apparel brand you could imagine – not to mention a strong air conditioning system that was more than refreshing after walking around in the humidity for hours. If you ever have an opportunity to go to Quail Hollow, or any other PGA event for that matter, make sure you take advantage of it. It’s such a unique experience given how close you can get to these athletes for 4 hours as they play for major championships and major sums of cash. Here’s to hoping the weekend at the PGA Championship in Charlotte is filled with drama and intrigue, even if the top of the leaderboard isn’t as we expected.

Champ’s Mid-Way Stat Breakdown
DataGolf gives 5 players with over 5% odds of claiming the Wanamaker trophy. Scottie and Bryson will get all the buzz, but I still see a path for players sitting at -2 or better after Round 2.
Clubhouse Shout Outs to Max Homa and Si Woo Kim who both shot the low rounds of the day (-7/64) on the back of a near Hole in One on the Par 4 14th for Max just to be outdone by SWK who made the LONGEST Hole in One in Major Championship History at 252 Yards on the Par 3 6th. Incredible!
Current Players with Odds of 30/1 or Less at the Half Way Point
Scottie Scheffler +210
Bryson DeChambeau +800
Jhonattan Vegas +1200
Matt Fitzparick +1200
Si Woo Kim +1600
