Patio Preview

TPC Southwind

Memphis, Tennessee

  • Par 70, 7,288 yards

    • Long/very long course by Tour standards

  • First event of the 2026 FedExCup Playoffs

    • Top 70 in FedExCup standings qualify

    • 50 players advance to the BMW Championship

  • Major renovation ahead of the 2025 event

    • All 18 green complexes were rebuilt/resurfaced

    • Tee boxes were also rebuilt/resurfaced

    • Green surrounds were changed to Zeon Zoysia

    • Fairways were resurfaced

    • Additional green square footage created more potential hole locations

    • This is important when weighing older course-history numbers because the course is not exactly the same test it was pre-2025.

Greens

  • Bermuda greens

  • Smallish targets historically around 4,500 sq. ft.

  • The renovated greens added some square footage and new hole locations

  • Firmness and drainage were upgraded with the renovation

Rough / Fairways

  • Zoysia fairways and Bermuda rough/surrounds

  • Fairways remain tight

  • Water is in play on 11 holes

  • Missing fairways carries a meaningful penalty because approaches from the rough are considerably more difficult than from the short grass

  • This creates an interesting balance: distance helps, but accuracy and good driving decisions are extremely important

Off the Tee

  • Driver usage is significantly above Tour average

  • Players can use length to carry hazards and shorten some approaches, but this isn’t simply a bomber’s paradise

  • The combination of narrow fairways, water and difficult rough makes SG: OTT + Driving Accuracy or Good Drives particularly valuable

Approach

  • 65–70% of approaches come from 125–200 yards

  • Approaches from the fairway are dramatically easier than from the rough

  • Large GIR/proximity penalty when players miss the fairway

Around the Green

  • Scrambling matters more than the raw course difficulty might suggest

  • Small greens and surrounding hazards create plenty of opportunities to miss greens

Putting

  • Bermuda putting surfaces have historically been relatively favorable

  • A hot putter can obviously win the week, but I wouldn’t build the model around it

Par 3s

4 Par 3s

  • Approximately 162–239 yards

  • A mix of short/mid irons and one very long test

  • #14 at 239 yards is particularly demanding

  • Par 3 scoring remains worth considering, especially because several of these holes can punish misses

Par 4s

12 Par 4s

  • Approximately 395–505 yards

  • The biggest scoring category on the course

  • Several demanding long par 4s

  • Shorter holes still require accuracy because of water, trees and strategically positioned hazards

Par 5s

2 Par 5s

  • Approximately 530 and 554 yards

  • Both provide legitimate birdie/eagle opportunities

  • #3 plays downhill at 554 yards

  • #16 is 530 yards and reachable in two depending on the drive
