Comp Results: 1/1/3/3/3/20/22/MC/MC/MC
Insights: Are you getting bored of Scottie’s dominance or just out of adjectives? I mean, how do you even hype a guy playing better than his 9-win season from a year ago? His current run is basically a cheat code: 1/4/1/1/8/4/2/. Sure, his only Oakmont appearance was a missed cut in 2016… but he was a teenager. Probably still trying to grow facial hair. +270 to win vs -400 to not? That’s not odds—that’s a choice. I’ll gladly eat the chalk in DFS, even at $14,400. If a first-time winner breaks through, congrats to them... but I’ll still have Scottie’s gold medal look queued up on my Sunday stream.

Bryson DeChambeau
Odds: +750
Stats: Top 15 OTT, ARD, T2G, BOB, P4, BA, DD, GIR, SCR; Outside T45 APP, PUTT
SG Gains: OTT 4/4, APP 3/4, ARD 4/4, PUTT 3/4

US Open Results: 1/1/15/20/25/26/35/56/MC/MC
Comp Results: 1/18/22/38/MC/MC/MC/MC/MC/MC
Insights: The defending US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau has 6 straight Top 5 finishes, including a T2 at the PGA Championship and a T5 at the Masters — as well as a win at LIV Korea. He played this course at the US Open in 2016 and finished Top 20, while also leading the event for a period of time. His game should translate very well at Oakmont again this year given his elite gains off-the-tee and around-the-green, and his putting is arguably the best of any of the top names on the betting board. However, his irons are a concern, which was the reason why I (Sammy) wasn’t on him at the Masters. More recently though, Bryson gained close to 2 strokes on Approach at LIV Virginia and more than 4 strokes in that category in his win in Korea. Obviously, those courses are nothing like Oakmont, but it’s good to see that he’s a least gained strokes on Approach in 4 straight events since the Masters. In fact, the only time he’s lost strokes since Augusta is last week in Virginia, where he lost nearly 1 stroke on the greens. Otherwise, he’s positive in all major Shots Gained metrics in his last 4 events, including at Quail Hollow. The odds aren’t very appetizing, but Bryson should be very much in the mix to win this tournament. Fire him up on your betting cards, DFS lineups, and one-and-done contests.

Rory McIlroy

Odds: +1400
Stats: Top 100 exclude APP 175200 (139), PROX (130), BOB 200+ (101)
Rank: Top 75% exclude APP 175200, PROX
SG Gains: OTT 3/4, APP 2/4, ARD 2/4, PUTT 2/4
FORM: MC/47/7/12
US Open Results: 1/2/2/5/7/8/9/9/10/23/41/MC/MC/MC/MC/MC
Comp Results: 3/4/5/5/7/8/8/10/15/15/16/17/18/18/24/31/32/57/MC/MC
Insights: We were adamant that Rory would not win the RBC Canadian Open last week, and we nailed that prediction — as Rory missed the cut and finished close to DFL and lost strokes across the board in every major category. Driver has been a problem for Rory ever since his non-conforming fiasco a few weeks ago, which is an issue at Oakmont. For what it’s worth, Rory is 107th in the field in Driving Accuracy last 16 rounds. Also an issue is his Approach game, losing strokes to the field in 3 straight events with his irons. He’s been particularly poor from 150-200 yards, which will likely be a popular range for him given his distance off the tee. At his odds, it’s a pass for me until we see his ball-striking improve to pre-Masters levels.
